Three reasons your website needs a blog
Do you see other people in your industry blogging and wonder why they bother? After all, isn’t blogging just a fad from 10 years ago? Or maybe none of your competitors blog so you’re pretty sure that you don’t need to either? Adding a blog to your website might well get filed as a ‘distraction’. And who can blame you? I’m a small business owner too and I know how busy life is when you’re wearing all the hats and managing a very long to do list.
One day you’re worrying about sales, operations, packing and dispatch and the next you’re learning all about finance and marketing. That can make finding the time and energy to do something new for your business, such as blogging, hard work. But have a blog on your business website delivers a wide range of benefits which could just elevate your business above your competitors. Let’s take a closer look at what they are. When you’ve heard more, you might just decide to put pen to paper… or fingers to keyboard
1. It boosts your online visibility
OK, your first response might be – why does that matter? If your business has thrived without an online presence (i.e. a website and/or social media profiles) why change now? But digital transformation is impacting businesses in every single sector. The internet is changing the way their customers find businesses and interact with them. A website is a key tool, allowing people to browse your products and services 24 hours a day, every single day of the year. A blog helps more people find your business website, something I wrote about here.
2. A blog can educate your customers
You can also use a blog on your website to help potential customers find out if you’re the right business for them. That can shorten the sales process and filter out enquires from customers who are not a good fit for your brand. Because you can also create blogs for existing customers, there’s another way they can help you. How? You can write blogs for existing customers to help them use your products more effectively or make the most of your services. For example, I could write a blog about how to repurpose blog content for social media posts.
3. It could also build brand trust
You blog will be an outlet to share your knowledge with website visitors, something which is a fantastic way to approach marketing! Creating content which offers real value to your followers and website visitors is fantastic for building brand trust and filling your pipeline with potential customers. So why not think about your FAQs and use your blog to answer them. Those little questions you get asked time and time again. Not only being answered for you by your blog but helping your customers too!
